Meet the Team!
We are so fortunate to have an expanded workshop team this year! The Wyoming High Country Workshop is the brainchild of our headline Instructor, Caleb Goggans, who is pleased to include as our special guest artist and Keynote Speaker the skilled and phenomenal Anna Rose Bain. The incomparable Kim Azzarito, who is the Assistant Director of the Portrait Society of America, is moonlighting as our Workshop Coordinator, and we have a fantastic kitchen team this year, Lynette Haddock and Tracey Frangos, sisters who share a passion for good food, hospitality, and keeping things fun!
Lodging Reservations
Lodging for this event is covered by the Workshop, and this year everyone can select the room of their choice from one of our Workshop Partner Inns. You can check them out online & take a look at the rooms, then call to make reservations. Weather, Altitude, & Packing Info
Dubois is located at approximately 7,000 feet of elevation in the Rockies, and we will be going up to much higher elevations in mid-September. This means both daytime and nighttime temperatures can be far cooler than most people are used to, so you’ll need to be prepared with adequate clothing layers, including:
At high elevation the air is dry and thin, which can result in getting sunburned and dehydrated very quickly. Always carry plenty of water and keep yourself protected from the sun with long sleeved clothing, a wide brimmed hat, and sunscreen.
- Light or Short Sleeve Shirts
- Warm Shirts & Pants (Wool or Synthetic highly recommended)
- Warm Wool or Synthetic Socks (Cotton socks are not ideal, as they absorb and hold moisture)
- Good Study Shoes or Boots – think warm and supportive for varied terrain
- Hats , Gloves, & Warm Coat (handwarmers, too, if you like)
- Good Rain Shell Jacket. We may be blessed with balmy warm weather most of the time, though it is also highly likely we will see freezing temps at night and it is very possible we may see snow on the higher elevations.

Wildlife & Safety
The Wyoming Rockies are home to truly majestic and inspiring wildlife, including Deer, Elk, Moose, Coyote, Pronghorn Antelope, Badgers, Buffalo (they don’t call them Bison in rural WY), Black Bears, Brown Bears, Grey Wolves, and an occasional Mountain Lion (I’ve never seen this one). So, it is important that everyone respect the wildlife and keep a very safe distance between any person and one of the animals:
The Black Bear Inn sells Bear Spray, and reliably has the lowest price available in Dubois. The Grocery Stores and Outfitters also carry Bear Spray, too.
- Do Not Approach Wild Animals
- Stay back 100yds from Black or Brown Bears
- Stay 100 feet from Elk, Moose, and Buffalo (Bison)

- Bear Spray: https://a.co/d/3Azn5I8
- Having a good water bottle or reservoir and drinking plenty of water is very important, as the climate is very dry and your body can easily become dehydrated at higher altitude
- Sunscreen & Wide Brimmed Hat – The sun is very intense at high elevations, and the air is usually cool and dry, making it easy to forget to protect yourself from the sun.
- Whenever hiking or venturing into wild country, it is best practice to have a small first aid and emergency kit handy. I will have my kit with me, and recommend others do as well. I will also have a Satellite communicator and locator beacon.
