Artist Profile: Thomas Caleb Goggans
Instructor and Workshop Founder

Thomas Caleb Goggans’ portraits, sculptures, and landscapes uniquely capture existential landmarks; moments and glimpses that shape and connect us to one another and the endless wonder of the world. His work explores the rich contrasts of life, portraying humanity, the natural world, and our interactions between in a way that reveals truth in personality, intrinsic worth, and timeless meaning. Extending well beyond technically faithful reproduction, his art is born of intense observation, enthusiastic curiosity, and quiet contemplation. Finding inspiration and imagination in nature, life’s passages, and the people he encounters, Goggans seeks to explore those opportunities and express the richness, significance, and complexity of human experience.
Having been generously blessed with opportunities to learn from many world renowned artists, Goggans is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and training with others. For the past 25 years, he has donated his time as a volunteer and Instructor at the international and regional conferences of the Portrait Society, the very organization that proved formative in his development. Goggans has also spent countless hours and days over the last 15 years contributing as an instructor with various art organizations, including the Portrait Society of America, the Susan K Black Foundation, Townsend Atelier, The Booth Museum, The Hunter Museum of American Art, and the Wyoming High Country workshop.
Mr. Goggans' dedication and skill has brought him many accolades, having been named as a Top Ten Artist in Tennessee by the Portrait Society of America and recognized multiple years as a Finalist and award recipient in both the prestigious International Portrait Competition and the ARC Salon. In addition to consistently earning placement in international competitions, he has been featured in premier art publications and served as an instructor at esteemed art conferences and museums. His work has been exhibited in many shows and can be found in public and private collections across the country the Charles H. Coolidge Museum, a National Medal of Honor Heritage Center.
