Ever since I was young, the mountains have drawn me with a magnetism that is nearly impossible to describe. It is a longing that thrums and pangs like a hoped-for love that was lost, or suddenly hearing of the death of a once close and dear friend. Nearing them feels like the deepest memory in a dream, that is yet solid, tangible, perilous, and oh so present and real. I keep trying to grasp in paint what it means and how it feels. I think no single painting will ever embody it fully, but maybe a piece of it will be in each new attempt.
