"The model posing for myself and a group of other local painters one particular evening had beautifully fair and translucent skin, which captured my interest as the focus for my painting. Her almost wild cascade of dark hair tripping over he shoulder, seemingly trying to escape from her frame, created a remarkable and intriguing contrast with her refined and delicate complexion.
Capturing the transparent effect of her light skin required carefully considered layering, and restrained pairing of cool and warm color values, allowing areas of the canvas ground to peek through to achieve additional depth. Responding to the joyously unquiet personality of her dark hair, I ventured to paint it and the surrounding background with a playful looseness and controlled enthusiasm."
