Thomas Caleb Goggans is a sought after painter in the Naturalist tradition, Professor of Art at Covenant College and faculty at Townsend Atelier.
He began the path to his fine art career in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the early age of twelve and has trained under distinguished artists ever since. He began as an apprentice under Gordon Wetmore, Chairman of the Portrait Society of America, as well as studying and learning from other accomplished painters.
These early foundations nurtured an appreciation of the Naturalist painters of the Nineteenth Century. The intrinsic humanity and aesthetic depth of artist such as Sargent, Zorn, Sorolla, and Lepage, along with the Romantics, Symbolists, and Old Masters are a constant inspiration.
In 2003 Mr. Goggans moved to New England to rigorously continue his studies at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, one of the only traditional art colleges in America. As an Adams, Wardlaw, and National Merit Scholar his work quickly advanced, thriving in the focused studios. He continued his work outside of school as well, studying under multiple notable painters of New England.
Upon graduating with honors, and receiving the coveted Stobart Fellowship from the Lyme Academy, Mr. Goggans established his studio on Signal Mountain above Chattanooga. Known as the Scenic City, Chattanooga is nestled on the Tennessee River and is a thriving enclave of artists of every discipline, providing the support of a rare community of fine artists and galleries.
Goggans’ work focuses on the figure, portrait, and landscape. His work can be found in public and private collections around the country.
